Adjoa Andoh HonFRSL is a British actress. She has been on stage in prominent roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, and Almeida Theatre. She played Francine Jones in two seasons of Doctor Who, as well as 90 episodes of the renowned BBC medical drama Casualty and EastEnders.

Andoh made her Hollywood debut in Clint Eastwood’s drama picture Invictus in the autumn of 2009, as Brenda Mazibuko, Nelson Mandela’s head of staff, alongside Morgan Freeman as Mandela.
Since 2020, she has portrayed Lady Danbury in the Netflix medieval romance series Bridgerton. In July 2022, Andoh was named an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

Andoh’s family moved to Wickwar, Gloucestershire, when her father obtained a post at British Aerospace. Before commencing her law studies at Bristol Polytechnic, she attended Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School. She left after two years to pursue a career in acting.

Cundell has worked as a lifeguard, scuba diving instructor, public speaker, and writer.

After formerly residing in Brixton, the couple relocated to Sussex in 2022. In October 2009, Andoh got his Church of England lay preacher license. Andoh was a member of the BBC’s Radio Drama Company. She has worked with the National Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre, the Almeida Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Lyric Hammersmith, Derby Playhouse, Birmingham Rep, Manchester Contact RSC, and The Young Vic, among others.

In her spare time, she likes going to the movies, cooking, and holding jazz jam sessions at local pubs. She was inspired to pursue acting after viewing David Hare’s Plenty. She was sixteen at the time. After finishing her A-levels, she started working for Lloyds TSB Bank, but after a year, she became disillusioned and enrolled in Bristol Polytechnic’s law school. While studying law, she joined a group of black women and began taking acting and theater workshops. She sent a letter in favor of Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn ahead of the UK general election in November 2019.
